What did you for Thanksgiving?

Did your Hot Hubby get the kids up and make chocolate chip waffles while you slept in till 8am?

Did your little family pile up in mommy and daddy's bed to snuggle and read books?
Did you cozy up on the couch with a glass of tea and didn't care that your house looked like this?

Did you show your son some awesome puddles to jump in and your neighbor said "They always get dirty when they are dressed up" and then she looked shocked when you told her he jumped in on your suggestion?

Did you take the token pictures around the table of your dinner guests?

Did your daughter Houdini herself out of her high chair to climb on the dinner table?

Did you sit on (and crush) a little stacking doll that you Grandmother had received as a gift from missionaries in Poland?

Did Auntie Sarah take over and broke a sweat while playing with your kiddos?

Did you play play play?

Did you do a silly Indian craft? (found it here)

Did your daughter walk more than she ever has before? (Probably because GG was secretly giving her whip cream)

Our Thanksgiving read...

Thanksgiving Divorce

A man in Jacksonville calls his son in San Diego two days before Thanksgiving and says, "I hate to ruin your day, but I have to tell you that your mother and I are divorcing. Forty-five years of misery is enough."

"Pop, what are you talking about?" the son screams.

"We can't stand the sight of each other any longer," the father says. "We're sick of each other, and I'm sick of talking about this, so you call your sister in Denver and tell her."

Frantic, the son calls his sister, who explodes on the phone. "Like h*$@ they're getting divorced," she shouts, "I'll take care of this." She calls Jacksonville immediately, and screams at her father, "You are NOT getting divorced. Don't do a single thing until I get there. I'm calling my brother back, and we'll both be there tomorrow. Until then, don't do a thing, DO YOU HEAR ME?" and hangs up.

The old man hangs up his phone and turns to his wife. "Okay," he says, "they're coming for Thanksgiving and paying their own way."

Burn in my memory our "do-nothing-days." Those days when I'm less likely to take a picture. Days when we build blanket forts...

Days when they are just silly...Days when we pile up on Mommy and Daddy's bed for a good jump...

Days when we learn new things.

Let me recall from my memory my baby's perfect face...

...oh those silly-perfect faces they make!!

I'm so thankful for the spirit of exploration and wonder that you have given my children!

Burn in my mind the way they are in this moment... this very moment... right now... not posing for the camera... just playing... just sitting... just being...

All those times they disagree... And especially the times when they look so sweet.

Lord, let me remember today!

Flower Power...

I bought some vinyl/oil cloth (what's the difference?) to make vintage lunch sacks for my kiddos, then my friend Rachael told me that Babies R Us had lunch sacks for $3.49 (what a steal!). I had to liven it up a bit... good thing I had gotten that vinyl (oil cloth?). You can do this too! Use this simple pattern (or make up your own) to spice up a lunch sack, diaper bag, picture frame, scrapbook... anything!

When I started to do the zig-zag around the edges I wanted it to be perfect... they weren't... so it turned shabby chic. I ended up really liking the messy/funky look better!I was going to do a straight stitch in a spiral to make the center. Free handing a circle was a lot harder than I thought it would be... after three failed attempts (see above), I opted for a zig-zag. It was much more forgiving and I think it added to the funky look.

I love the way this turned out! Later that night Cora ripped the flower off the lunch sack. I'm going to re glue it AND hand sew it on later today. Lesson: If you need more stay-power, sew it on as well as hot glue for extra durability!

Nesting?

~I guess I can't ask my son for his decorating opinion (should that have been obvious because he is only 2?)...

~I know I can't ask Hot Hubby or our house would be brown and chrome...

~My mom (Suzie Says) is great, but her decorating... no comment...

No luck :( We just couldn't find the right combo of vintage/retro print in blue, yellow, green, red and white... maybe grey too. The print only exists in mommy's head.
This one would be good if the orange was red...
This one would be good if the background was white and if there was red and... well I guess this one doesn't work at all...
This one is perfect!!! Too bad I can't find it in person, only on the Internet and I'm really hoping to find a better price... help anyone?
